Unfortunately, Havering had a weak side and were on the defensive from the start. Aythorpes batsman were always on top
and after 43 overs they scored 270 for the loss of just 3 wickets.
Havering got off to a solid but slow start due to some very accurate bowling. Captain Tim Bland was out for 40 with the
score on 72 after 22 overs. Neil Keylock batted almost all the innings scoring a fine 88 and he was supported by Mark
Butler who scored a quick 43. Havering were never going to win this game but in the end managed a respectable 185 for 7

off 42 overs. The pick of the batsman for Roxwell was their skipper Duncan Stainer who scored a very good 55.

pavilion. However, it was down to the 2 youngsters in the team to stage a recovery, James Lavender scored an excellent 56
and he was well supported by Tom Gentle who scored 28. Unfortunately, the tail failed to capitalise on the recovery and
Havering only managed to score 166 for 9 after 45 overs.
After tea Havering did not have the benefit of the new ball and batting became much easier. Rankins were never in any
trouble until they had nearly reached their target when they lost 4 quick wickets, mainly due to a fine spell of bowling
by Tim Richardson taking 3 for 31 in 12 overs. Unfortunately, this was not enough to save the game as Rankins reached 167

Rankins were put into bat on a good looking flat pitch and soon made steady progress with the opening two batsmen sharing
a stand of 173, although they were assisted by some poor bowling and fielding. At one stage it looked like they would

side to a total of 232 for 3 off their 45 overs.

Havering were put into bat by Writtle having lost the toss. On a green and wet wicket batting was always going to be
difficult. After a slow but sound start the first wicket fell at 31 and wickets continued to fall quickly thereafter.
Jack Houghton (25) and Tim Richardson (17) managed to make the total look reasonable but Havering were all out for 110.
Unfortunately, the very first ball from Tom Moffat was dropped by the wicketkeeper but Haverings bowlers stuck to their
task and all bowled very well on a wicket which was still favouring the bowlers. A steady fall of wickets saw Writtle
slump to 78 for 9, but Steve Clark played a captains innings scoring 29 taking the score to 105 when he was out to a
