The Church, which became one of the Trustees of the Estate, reluctantly allowed Sunday cricket for the first time in 1961 and in 1975 League cricket came to the village. Since then, the Club has retained their village atmostphere whilst progressing within the League set-up in Essex. The present pavilion was erected in 1964 and extended in 1977.
Havering-Atte-Bower Cricket Club is a friendly club, which caters for players of all standards. We compete in Division 3, Division 7, Division 10 and Division 11 of the T.Rippon Mid Essex Saturday League and in Division 3 of the Warsopp Stebbing Central Essex Sunday Cricket league, as well as the many friendly games in the five Saturday and Sunday sides. The Colts compete at Under 11, 13, 15 level and many go on to compete in the senior teams whilst still playing colts cricket.
The club has three Level 2 Coaches and four Level 1 coaches to assist both senior and junior players. Six qualified unpires and two scorers add to the professional approach of the club.
This year is our 150th anniversary and we intend marking the occasion in various ways. Our Chairman for the past 10 years, Barry Dent, says: Over the past ten years the management committee has taken the club forward in many ways. We have built a strong youth development path with many youngsters making the Club proud as they play in senior elevens. The Club has obtained CLUB MARK STATUS and was one of the first in Essex to re-accreditation with good county reports. Two years ago we became a Havering Schools LINK CLUB and last year we became a FOCUS CLUB.
This year, there are two charity matches, one for the British Heart Foundation and one for the St. Frances Hospice in Havering-Atte-Bower.
If you want to play cricket in an ideal village location with the competition of League cricket, contact the Secretary on the email, or come up and visit us at the weekends.
